Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue
About Us

Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company is an all volunteer agency. We provide support to the rest of the fire companies within the town of Newtown and through mutual aid agreements to surrounding communities. We have two stations equipped with apparatus to respond quickly.

Our main station is at 18-20 Riverside Road, and our substation is at 249 Berkshire Road (Route 34). We have nine pieces of apparatus that are ready to respond to any emergency: a 75-foot Quint, three pumpers, two tankers, one rescue, one brush truck, a quad, and an OIC vehicle.

Our fire department is led into action by Chief Bill Halstead. He has been chief since 1978 and a member since 1965. We currently have over 60 active, support and life members; officers and firefighters. We also have a Junior Corps and Ladies Auxiliary who support the fire company.
